Oktoberfest at Silverado Brewing Company:

Great German Food, Once a Year!

Can you chicken dance? Show us, at our Community Beer Hall Dinner (see below).

Our Oktoberfest celebration lasts for approximately one week. During this time, we feature German foods like schnitzel, bratwurst, grilled Reuben sandwiches, German chicken and dumplings, and much more, along with our seasonal Oktoberfest Lager. You and your family/friends can dine in our Tap Room, dining room, or outside in our beer garden.

We also have special events. Here's a complete schedule:

Tues Sept 28: Bavarian Community Beer Hall Dinner
5:00 p.m.; $15 pp; kids 10 and under only $8
Come join for a wonderfully delicious German-style meal of two different kinds of sausages, pumpernickel bread, pretzels, mustard, and more. We'll have pitchers of our Oktoberfest lager flowing, a three-piece German band, and contests for best costume, best hat, and best chicken dance. Partial proceeds from this community night will go to our friends at Rianda House.

Thur Sept 30: Brewer's Dinner
6:00 p.m.; $45 pp
Join owner Michael Fradelizio, owner/brew maker Ken Mee, and chef Bernardo Ayala for an amazing five-course meal... each paired with a different Silverado Brewing Co. beer. Please note: we must limit this to 44 people, and this event WILL sell out. To reserve your spot, please contact Jennifer at Silverado Brewing Company at 707-967-9876.

All of our German foods are prepared by Silverado Brewing Co Chef Bernardo Ayala. For the past eight years, Chef Bernardo Ayala has been crafting Napa Valley renowned food for Silver Brewing Company. His menus include bar food-type fair in the Tap Room, American-California cuisine in the Restaurant, and eclectic and elegant food for Silverado’s catering company. The catering company counts among its clients local wineries, businesses, and non-profit organizations throughout the Napa Valley. Silverado Brewing Company and Chef Bernardo Ayala also have had the distinct privilege of catering the St. Helena’s Annual Winter Ball for the past four years. Chef Bernardo enjoys finding new and exciting ways to provide nutritious and healthy alternatives by researching the products before incorporating them into the menu. His passion for fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients and his use of beer throughout his cooking combine to dazzle and delight locals and visitors alike.

Our Oktoberfest Lager

Silverado Brewing Company’s Oktoberfest Lager is a special recipe prepared each year in homage to the traditional 19th century German tradition. In German, “Lager” means “to store.” This style came about in 19th century Germany to not only celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig, but also as a way for the breweries to empty barrels to make room for the new brewing season (and thus store the lagers), as there was no refrigeration technology then.

Lagers are fermented at cooler temperatures than those for ales (about 52 degrees for lagers, and about 68 degrees for ales). Between fermentation and aging/maturation of lagers, it takes the traditional time of five weeks before release to the public

According to our "beer man," Ken Mee (pictured), lagers make a wonderful accompaniment to grilled chicken or sausages.

History of Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is known as the Largest Volksfest (People’s Fair) in the World. The original Oktoberfest occurred on October 18, 1810, in Munich, Germany. It was held to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.

In 1910, Oktoberfest celebrated its 100th birthday, with 120,000 litres of beer being poured. In 1913, the Bräurosl was founded, which was the largest Oktoberfest beer tent of all time, with room for about 12,000 guests.

Since 1950, there has been a traditional festival opening: A twelve-gun salute and the tapping of the first keg of Oktoberfest beer at noon by the incumbent Mayor of Munich with the cry “O'zapft is!” (“It's tapped!” in the Austro-Bavarian language). The Mayor then gives the first beer to the Minister-President of the State of Bavaria.

Jagermeister

Think of Oktoberfest, and you think of beer. But many also think of Jagermeister, a German 70-proof digestif, made with herbs and spices. The word Jagermeister means "hunt-master", hence the picture of the buck with the antlers on each bottle.

We'll have plenty of Jagermeister available during Oktoberfest. (And, on October 2 for our German Club Party beginning at 9:00 p.m., we'll be paid a visit by the Jager girls!)

PARTY like a German rock star during our German Club DJ party. In addition to great music, great food, and, of course, great beer and drinks, we'll be joined by the Jager girls. This is a can't-miss party opportunity.
